As of July 1, 2024, Turquoise checks for two new hospital price transparency technical requirements: the presence of a text file in the root folder of a hospital's website and MRF publication in a required CMS schema. The data below is not an indicator of overall compliance to the Hospital Price Transparency Final Rule. For 2024 requirements, CMS defined two MRF schema versions, and hospitals could conform to either version, but not both. Each hospital is evaluated against the schema version declared in their file.

This shows the percentage of providers that have published a TXT file. A TXT file is placed in the root folder of the hospital's website. It includes the hospital location name corresponding to the MRF, the source URL hosting the MRF, a direct link to the MRF, and the hospital's contact information.

Updated Provider List Coming Soon
In July, Turquoise posted a list of hospitals that we had found to meet the new technical requirements made effective July 1st, 2024: a .txt file in the root of the hospital’s page, and conformance to the new V2.0 schema.
Our intent was to highlight hospitals’ significant efforts to publish transparent pricing to consumers in accordance with the Hospital Price Transparency Rule. Since our initial publication in July, we’ve received inquiries regarding our methodology for evaluating the technical requirements (specifically the .txt file) and our cadence for re-checking hospital websites. We plan to relaunch our MRF tracker alongside refreshed documentation shortly.
