Might as well put our thousands of hours working with MRFs to good use, right?

As we sprint toward the 7/1/24 finish line, the MRF team at Turquoise has been reading, debating, rereading, building, ruminating, pontificating, and designing a best in class approach to creating a comprehensive, complete, and CMS-compliant hospital MRF. Since we work in the price transparency space, we decided to transparently document and publish our processes. Like reading our journal, but without all the ~ feels ~ that come with a teenager’s MySpace page.

The resulting repository contains documentation of Turquoise's full understanding and approach to hospital MRF generation. You’ll find information explaining our approach to professional rates, soft-coded CPTs, when and how claims data fits into the MRF process, bundled payment methodology, and more.

Although CMS has been actively responding to clarifying questions on github, a number of nuanced rate types and contract provisions remain open to interpretation. By publishing our rationale and decision-making processes, we hope to encourage further clarification around murky requirements to ensure all hospitals have a comprehensive tool kit to achieve full compliance.

The repository also contains a forum for discussions and questions we welcome anyone and everyone to utilize. As always, a reminder that Turquoise Health is not CMS, and the repository contains our own independent work and processes for representing data in MRFs. All formal CMS guidance is located here.
