A carpectomy is a surgical procedure where part of the carpus, which is the wrist bone, is removed.
A carpectomy might be recommended by your doctor if you have a condition called Kienbock’s Disease which is caused by the interruption of blood flow to bone in the wrist.
During a carpectomy, your doctor will first make an incision in the area of your wrist where the bone is, and then will remove the bone.
After the procedure, your wrist may be covered with a dressing or a splint to help protect it from further damage. You may experience some swelling and pain in or around your wrist for up to several months. Your doctor may also recommend physical therapy to regain your range of motion in the wrist.
