A Rubella virus antibody test is a medical procedure which detects the presence of antibodies created by the body to fight off the Rubella virus.
This antibody test is usually recommended for pregnant women to determine if they already have immunity to the virus, and if the baby would be protected from birth. It can also be used to diagnose a Rubella infection.
The test involves a small sample of blood to be taken from the patient, or in some cases a swab of saliva. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for testing, and results can be available within a few days.
The test results will indicate if the patient has antibodies that would indicate prior infection or immunity to the virus. If the test comes back positive, then the patient has likely previously been infected.
A Rubella virus antibody test is a quick and easy procedure which is used to determine if a person has previously been infected with Rubella virus, or has immunity from being vaccinated. Results from the test allow medical professionals to make informed decisions about a patient's health.
